IT'S 'GARDEN DAYS' THIS COMING WEEKEND For the love of gardens and gardening, get out there and celebrate!

Toronto, ON ...June 14, 2016 ...Garden Days, Canada’s national celebration of gardens and gardening, starts this coming Friday, June 17 and runs through Sunday, June 19.

From coast to coast there are loads of activities to suit all tastes. From gnome hunts for the kids to ceramic garden marker-making sessions to tours, demos, yoga-in-the-garden, plant sales, concerts, garden art exhibits, grow your own food contests, the opening of the ‘Landscapes of Canada Gardens’ at Ottawa’s Museum of Nature, backyard parties and so much more – there truly is something for everyone from five to 95. “It’s time to get outside Canada! This is the perfect weekend to take Dad out for a Father’s Day treat at a nearby public garden, park or garden centre, all of which are gussied up for the occasion and looking forward to welcoming you,” says Frankie Flowers, national Garden Days spokesperson. “Our public and private gardens are among the country’s great assets and Garden Days is the ideal time to get outside, have a whack of fun and remember to take a moment to stop and smell the peonies!”

Garden Days is organized by the Canadian Garden Council with the support of Canadian Nursery Landscape Association, Landscape Ontario, Communities in Bloom, Québec Gardens Association, Gardens BC, Ontario Garden Council, the Ontario Horticultural Association and the Canadian Museum of Nature. Garden Days contest sponsors are: VIA Rail Canada, Garden Decor, Scotts Miracle-Gro and Garant.

The program’s objective is to draw attention to Canada’s garden culture, history and innovations and to underscore the importance of public and private gardens, the values of home gardening and the promotion of environmental stewardship.
